If you've never seen a trailer for the upcoming independent horror movie, "The Human Centipede", brace yourself. It is probably the creepiest thing I have ever seen in my life.

Then again I'm not too big on horror movies as a genre in general. So I'm curious as to if this is as grotesque for people who usually are in to them as it was for me.

Dude. I'd been reading about this movie for a few months, just some headlines and things that were posted on horror movie site Bloody-Disgusting. I never really read much into the articles or looked at the pictures because I couldn't get past the title and what it promised, but between my friend texting me about it the other day and your blog post, I finally bit the bullet and watched the trailer.
ReplyDeleteOh man. I'm all for constructive discussion, but that was just gross. I consider myself a pretty big horror movie fan, but I'm not sure if I could ever bring myself to watch this. Even considering the curiosity factor, I'd still have to pass. Just the concept, the drawing/practice as depicted in the trailer... ugh. What's worse, my fears are fully realized, as supposedly The Human Centipede II: Full Sequence is shooting this year. Barf city.
Personal hang-ups aside, the movie has been receiving praise from the horror community. It won both Best Actor and Best Horror Film at Austin Fantastic Fest in addition to Best Film at Screamfest last year.
I've seen some pretty messed up movies in my life, probably ones more disturbing than THC (thank you, France), but I'd be more curious to talk to someone who's seen it than to actually see it.
I remember when I watched the trailer a couple weeks ago, my roommate heard it and asked what the hell I was watching. There is no way that I will pay ten bucks (the normal price for a movie ticket) to watch this movie in theaters, but I am sure that once it is available on DVD, or even more convenient, On Demand, I will spend the few dollars to get weirded out for an evening.
ReplyDeleteThe idea behind the film is pretty creative in my opinion. It follows the classic plot theme of getting lost in an unknown area and running into the wrong people. Especially when you are traveling in a foreign country, which will give some future abroad students nightmares. There is no more scary than a German psycho.
The awards that Brian mentioned above make me even more curious. The insane doctor's looks fit the part, so I'm assuming he won the best actor award. Anyways the movie is debuting on April 30th in NYC and May 7th nationwide.
